A sneak-peek inside an award-winning Mayfair property

January 24, 2018

Having been awarded ‘winner of residential design over £1M’ in the SBID International Design Awards 2017, ‘Greybrook House,’ a duplex penthouse in the heart of Mayfair, is currently of great interest amongst property experts and interior designers alike and it’s not difficult to see why.

Originally a piano showroom designed by Sir John Burnett & Pathers, this art deco, Grade Two listed property was taken on by property enhancement company Fenton Whelan who successfully combined the best of contemporary design and modern living with original period features, paying homage to the property’s rich history. Situated in the distinguished West London postcode, Greybrook House is a welcomed addition to the Mayfair market being listed with Mayfair Estate Agents, Wetherell. The local property experts comment ‘it just shows that even when the property market in other areas may seem unpredictable, you can always be assured of world-class design and opportunities in Mayfair.’

Filled with bespoke furniture, this boutique residential development makes a visual impact. Whilst classically luxurious, it is interesting and original in its carefully considered design features. On entry, the spacious and luxurious living area is inviting, with the eye drawn to a dramatic hanging bronze fireplace which acts as a focal point within the space. An abundance of natural light floods the space on account of large steel framed windows which lead on to a fully furnished terrace. This feature, popular amongst designers, gives a light and contemporary feel, whilst providing an opportunity for indoor-outdoor living- a rarity in many central London locations.

Honouring the property’s art-deco origins, Fenton Whelan has combined interiors and stylish design features that make aspects of the space reminiscent of a 1930’s cocktail club. In particular, a back-lit onyx cocktail bar, in addition to a striking Taj Mahal marble island unit complete with white upholstered, gold finish bar stools which works as a focal point within the kitchen. The use of marble throughout the property gives it a luxurious, contemporary feel, making the space perfect space for entertaining. A staircase leads off from the living space to an impressively sized rooftop garden, providing views of London’s iconic skyline.

Set a floor below is the master suite, an oasis of calm and relaxation. Lacquered finish wardrobes gesture, again, at the art-deco design movement. Spacious, with neutral interiors, the master suite is complete with a large, fully fitted dressing room and vanity, in addition to a grand en-suite. The bathroom is arguably one of the more striking spaces within the property, with large black and gold geometric shapes printed on an otherwise white marble floor. This feature, in addition to a large black marble soaker bath which acts as a focal point within the space, adds to the grandness of the property. Mirrored walls counter-balance the use of black marble, ensuring that light permeates the space.

In addition to the master suite are four spacious bedrooms, each complete with upholstered headboards, book matched marble and bespoke joinery.

If you’re looking for your own piece of Mayfair, you can expect a 2 or 3-bedroom property to feature within the range of just under £1.5M up to £5.25M. Per square foot, this means a value ranging from £2,200 p.s.f. to £4,400 p.s.f.
